Belly dancing is NOT for everyone. I believe that this art form is for individuals seeking a unique, mystical, self-defining way to improve them selves physically, and socially. Furthermore, it's especially appealing for women who want to express their femininity through sensual movement.
Requirements of correctly learning the dance is to: 1. Know the history of the Art of Middle Eastern Dance 2. Have a sense of creativity 3. Have certain physical abilities and be in a state of health that will allow you to enjoy dancing.
Although belly dancing is considered even a safe exercise during pregnancy, I wouldn't recommend people with back, shoulder, chest, or abdominal injuries or pain to partake in a belly dance class. Most classes are designed for exercise rather than concentrate on mastering the techniques. However, there are great instructors who are willing to break down the movements and teach the class as seen on instructional videos.
